Martin Cort's writing work began
with the narratives that he wrote for Rumer
Godden's Poetry Programmes (see The
Around Readers page
for further information).
He went on to write three pantomimes (which he also directed)
for the London
Borough of Camden: Cinderella, Puss
in Boots and Dick Whittington.
Attending a modern-times adaptation of Marivaux'sLove
Is a Game of Chance, he was inspired to make his own
adaptation set in the 1920s. His adaptation was premiered
at Actors & Writers
London in 2002.
Martin Cort's latest full evening
play, Death on the Doorstep, received
its first performed reading by Actors & Writers
London in November 2007, under the direction of Peter
Kosta.
Martin Cort was also inspired by AWL's
thrice-yearly competitions, for which member writers are invited
to submit ten-minute plays. He wrote Surprise
Bundle 2006 (also CAA and Royal
Institution) and Simon's Secret 2007
(also CAA and Royal
Overseas League) and Lunchtime Story (2008).
